Air, the Old Fashioned WayIf you needed an air fill in 1976, this is where it come from. The system of large storage bottles is called a cascade. Each of the bottles in succession contains air at a higher pressure than the one preceding it. To fill a cylinder, you begin by transferring air from the “lowest” bottle, then continue to do from each successively cylinder “higher” bottle until the tank if finally full. Things work a lot more efficiently today. Our canine companion in the photo is Mako, Bruce’s pure-bred Malamute (then just barely past the pupply stage).
