The Benefits

This is why we teach our students that, when faced with an out-of-air diver, their best course of action is to donate the one second stage:

• They can locate and pass instantly.
• That both divers know is working.
• That an out-of-air diver may simply take without asking (making it best for the donor to be prepared to locate and begin breathing from his own alternate-air-source, as there may be no other choice).

That is the primary second stage — the one potential donors normally breathe from.
