US Divers Monitor Series (M1, M2, Etc.)

Monitor Series

The Monitor series of dive computers were among the first available from US Divers. They could track multi-level air dives but were not Nitrox-capable. They have not been in production for some time.

Monitor models “1” and “2” can still be serviced. Models “2+” and “3” cannot. When one of these latter models dies, that’s it.

What Does It Need?

Normal service on Monitor models “1” and “2” involves periodic battery replacement. Indications that it is time for battery replacement include:

  • A “low battery” indicator appears, as covered in the Owners Manual.
  • The computer was functioning properly when last used; however, after a period of inactivity, it simply will not turn on.
  • The computer will turn on but shuts down shortly afterword, or displays erroneous information.

The cost for battery replacement is US$75, plus return shipping costs.

More extensive problems generally mean that the computer is no longer repairable.

Part of the reason that the cost of replacing a battery in this computer is noticeably higher than it is for newer models is that the replacement procedure involves:

  • Soldering in a larger, harder to find and more expensive battery.
  • Potting the battery in place using a two-part gel. (This is the same gel we have to dig out when removing the old battery.
