Galapagos Aggressor:
November 8-19, 2007
For nature lovers and the adventurous, there’s no more fascinating destination than the Galapagos Islands- — and no better way to explore it than from aboard the Galapagos Aggressor.
The Galapagos Archipelago is located in the Pacific Ocean, 600 miles west of Ecuador. There are 19 main islands and numerous smaller ones. Although the Galapagos are located on the equator, water temperatures are cooler than you would expect, due to local upwellings of nutrient-rich waters and currents from Antarctica, carried by the Humboldt Stream. The mixture of warm currents from Central America with this cooler ocean water produces an amazing cocktail of climates, flora and fauna.
The Galapagos have been christened one of the Seven Underwater Wonders of the World. Birthplace of Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution, these islands are protected as a national park and one of the world’s largest marine reserves. Today they’re here for you to investigate and cherish.
To give our divers the opportunity to experience nearly everything this exciting and unpredictable regions offers during our November, 2007, trip, we’ve planned an extensive itinerary that includes visits to the Galapagos and other nearby islands. We will be trying to maximize our opportunity to see and swim with the elusive humpback whales and whale sharks.
During your sojourn under water, you’ll encounter a parade of rare and endemic creatures, such as tropical and cold-water fish species mingling together, schooling hammerheads, penguins, sea lions, eagle rays, turtles, mantas, dolphins, reef shark and marine iguanas. Then, on land excursions, you’ll discover giant tortoises, flamingos, albatrosses, boobies and land iguanas, while an experienced naturalist helps interpret the unique eco-systems.
The Galapagos Aggressor features all the expected amenities, including air-conditioned cabins, freshwater showers, on-board E-6 processing and video editing. ♦
