Every diver needs a good set of dive gear. On top of the diving essentials like BC's, regulators, etc., every diver should be well equipped with some essential accessories to make every dive a fun, successful dive. Here we've listed what we think are some of the essential accessories every diver should have.
2016 Holiday Accessories Guide:
1. Surface Signal Sausage
A signal safety tube (or safety sausage) is a long, orange inflatable tube that you inflate when surfacing from your dive, allowing the dive boat to spot you easily. They are especially necessary when drift diving or diving in places like Florida where there is a lot of boat traffic. This is an easy accessory to clip on to your BC and is carried in every dive store, or our friends over at the Divers Alert Network make some good ones.
2. Nautilus LifeLine Radio
The Nautilus LifeLine is a radio safety device that can be deployed on the surface of the water if you find yourself way off from the boat or accidentally left behind. It can be used as both a marine radio to communicate with the boat or to send a distress message to boats around you up to a demonstrated range of 34 miles.
3. Spool
A spool, also known as a reel, is essential to any diver who plans on doing a penetration dive such as wreck diving or cave diving. They come in many different sizes and now colors too! It's important to buy one that spools easily and is made of a non-corrosive material.
4. Save-A-Dive-Kit
Every driver should have one of these kits living in the bottom of their dive bag. It should be equipped with things like o-rings, defog, zip ties, mask straps, snorkel keepers, etc. Your dive could easily be ruined by something small breaking. This kit could just be the thing to save your entire dive trip.
5. Dive Gear Bag
A good full-size dive gear bag is essential to any diver. You're going to have to get your gear from your house to the dive site someway. A strong, sturdy bag is very important when hauling that heavy dive gear on and off the boat or the airplane, or just from your car to the dive site.
6. Dry Bag
Seeing as how everything regarding scuba diving requires water, most of your stuff is bound to get wet. If you plan on bringing things to your dives or on the dive boat like a camera, wallet, phone, etc., it is essential to have a good dry bag to store all of your items in so they can stay nice and dry.
These are just a handful of the accessories that are out there for divers. We could make a list that is a mile long of great scuba accessories. These are some of the top items every diver should have on hand. Any of these would be the perfect holiday gift for that diver you love. Happy Holidays from Underseas Scuba Center!
