It's no secret Underseas Scuba Center LOVES to dive in Cozumel, Mexico. We have taken groups down there too many times to count and we already have three trips planned for Cozumel this year! With SO many beautiful islands in the Caribbean, we could go to, you may ask: "why do you go back to Cozumel so often?" Well, anyone who's ever been diving there can answer you that pretty easily, but here are our top reasons why we return to Cozumel year after year after year.
5 Reasons why we LOVE going to Cozumel
Reason 1: The Reef
Cozumel sits on the second largest barrier reef in the world! The only next largest is the Great Barrier Reef of Australia. This reef runs from Cozumel, down to Belize and Honduras. It is the Caribbean's best-kept secret....or at least it used to be. Thousands of divers now flock here every year to dive in some of the clearest and most colorful diving in the world!
Reason 2: The People
The locals here are mostly of Mayan descent and are some of the nicest folks you will every find. They crew the boats, they lead the dives, they run the restaurants (of which the food is a-mazing) and they try to sell you all kinds of trinkets on the streets. They are genuinely kind and welcoming to their small island home!
Reason 3: The Diving
Cozumel's diving truly rivals anything you will find on both Cayman and Bonaire. You’ll find breathtaking walls, beautiful shallow, medium, and deep reefs, a wide assortment of colorful fish and coral, heart-pounding drift dives, and relaxing shallow reef dives. It's also one of the wall diving capitals of the world. There are more amazing dive sites than there is time to dive them. And when the boats drop you back at the dock, you have unlimited shore diving right off of your hotel!
Reason 4: The Commute
Cozumel is fairly easy to get to from all regions of the United States. A single stop over along the way gets you to Cozumel quick and it's not that far south of our border. By going over a weekend, you could even get away with only taking a couple of days off work to get away to Cozumel.
Reason 5: The "Other Side" of the Island
Some divers who come to Cozumel completely miss the most beautiful top-side part of the island. The locals call it "the other side" of the island. While all of the diving, hotels and the town of San Miguel sit on the western side, the eastern (or windward) side of the island is mostly uninhabited but utterly beautiful. It is full of soft, white sandy beaches, azure blue water, and tons of waves. Between dives, it's fun to rent a little scooter and cruise over to relax on this side of the island at one of the handful of beach bars along the road.
No matter what drives you to dive, be it the serenity found beneath the surface, the thrill of drifting along plunging walls of coral, the awe of observing amazing sea life, or the desire to see the world and do something fun along the way; Cozumel is where you can come to fulfill all of those desires, and then some. With three trips this year, you're sure to find a time to fit a trip to Cozumel into your busy life. So...come with us to Cozumel!
